An alarm in Brussels, as authorities completed investigations into the suspected parcel that had been found earlier, leading to the EU building evacuation and the closure of the main road in the European district.
Earlier, traffic had been interrupted at Rue de la Loi, the busy main road crossing the European district, near the headquarters of the European Commission, the Berlaymont building.
According to a police officer involved in investigations, there was a report of a suspected parcel in the area, and the road was blocked by patrol and fire trucks.
In a message to the staff at 13:55, the European Commission informed: “Police. Suspicious object in front of the building in Rue de la Loi 65. Stay away from windows. Avoid the area. “
In a second message at 14:20, the committee informed the employees that “the police intervention near the building was completed. The situation came back to normal. “
During the investigation, the street was excluded from police and fire trucks, while the Copernicus building was evacuated – which houses the Commission’s Digital Policy Directorate, DG Connect.
