“Once again, we are witnessed by unthinkable life losses in Gaza,” the UN said in a written information on the situation in the Gaza Strip.

The UN Secretary -General “condemns the loss of lives and the injury to Palestinians seeking help in Gaza”.

“They are unacceptable. Civilians are risking – and in many cases they lose – their lives to get food. Palestinians have the fundamental right to sufficient food and get rid of hunger,” he said.

The Secretary -General continues to call for the immediate and independent investigation of these events and the return of responsibility to the perpetrators.

“The basic needs of the population in Gaza are enormous and are not satisfied. Israel has clear obligations under international humanitarian law to agree and facilitate humanitarian aid for all civilians in need,” the UN said.

The unhindered entry of humanitarian aid, emphasized, must be restored immediately. The UN must be allowed to work safely and protect under the full respect of the humanitarian authorities.

The UN also emphasizes that “all hostages must be released immediately and unconditionally”.

The Secretary -General continues to seek immediate and sustainable ceasefire.
