Thriller with the poisoning of the Russian tycoon Roman Abramovich prevails in the last hours, as there is a storm of conflicting information.
Reports from the Wall Street Journal and the research site Bellingcat reported that the Russian oligarch and two Ukrainian negotiators showed signs of poisoning after a meeting in Kyiv.
The Bellingcat However, citing expert statements, it clarified that the dose and type of substance were not likely to pose a serious risk, which would be life-threatening to the victims.
The symptoms were, among others, red eyes, constant and painful tearing, as well as “peeling” on the skin of the face and hands. Abramovich lost his sight for several hours, a Guardian reporter reported.
A spokesman for Abramovich confirmed that the Russian tycoon had symptoms of poisoning earlier this month.
Ukrainian officials, however, one of them was allegedly poisoned, they spoke of “speculation and conspiracy theories” denying the WSJ.
A U.S. official later said that information suggesting that the illness, which was caused by a Russian oligarch and at least two Ukrainian negotiators, was caused by “environmental factors” and not by poisoning.
So far, Russia has not made an official statement on the matter. Victims of poisoning in the past have been opposition leader Alexei Navalny, the alleged former spy Sergei Skripal and the fierce critic of corruption in the FSB (formerly led by Vladimir Putin) Alexander Lukashenko.
Meeting in Moscow with him Vladimir Putin had in the meantime o tycoon last Wednesday carrying his handwritten note President Zelenskyrevealed the Times.
According to the British newspaper, the Russian tycoon traveled to Moscow on one of his private jets from Istanbul. The note of the Ukrainian President delivered to the Russian President contained a summary of the conditions that Kyiv would accept for the end of the war.
Putin’s initial response, according to the report, was clearly negative: “Tell him I’ll crush them.”
One of more surprising things about this story is that Abramovich has been to Kyiv twice, and that it was fully kept under the radar. I suppose he had good enough security provided by the Ukrainians he had not stopped at the 300 armed-volunteer-manned checkpoints on the way
