At least 11 people were killed, including one teenager, and another 20 were injured when strangers opened fire in a home on Tuesday night in the city of Iraapato, Central Mexico, according to local authorities.
The Guaganahuato General Prosecutor’s Office, the state where Iraapuat is located, said that 20 people are being hospitalized with bullet injuries.
The president of Mexico Claoudia Seinbaum announced earlier that they were children among the victims. However, the Attorney General’s office confirmed that only one of the dead was a minor, aged 17 years.
“It is very unfortunate what happened. An investigation is being carried out, “Seinbaum said.
Local media reported that there was a party on the occasion of a universal celebration, the birth of John the Baptist.
A video posted on social networking sites shows people dancing in the courtyard of a building complex and music sounds, and then shooting. Reuters agency was not able to verify this video.
Guanahuato has been one of the Mexican areas plagued by violent incidents for many years, as criminal organizations compete with each other to control drug trafficking. On Tuesday, five people were killed in various parts of this state.
