Ukraine announces resumption of evacuation of civilians through three humanitarian corridors from cities besieged by Russian forcesmainly from Mariupol, in the southern part of the country, after its suspension yesterday, Monday, due to fears of Russian “provocations”.
“Three humanitarian corridors have been ratified for today,” Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Irina Verestsuk said in a Telegram video.
According to her, the first corridor will be opened between Mariupol and Zaporizhia, located further north, for the evacuation of civilians by car, as well as between Berdyansk, where civilians had already been evacuated in the previous days, and Zaporizhia.
The second corridor will be opened from Melitopolis, which is under the control of Russian forces in the southern part of the country, to Zaporizhia and the third will reunite Zaporizhia with Energodar, which is also in the hands of Moscow forces and in which has a nuclear power plant.
Yesterday, the Ukrainian authorities announced that they were suspending all attempts to evacuate civilians for the whole day, saying that they were afraid of Russian “provocations”.
The opening of humanitarian corridors is organized daily for the cities most affected by the fighting in Ukraine to allow the evacuation of civilians.
Ukraine has repeatedly complained Russian attacks in these corridors, mainly around the besieged Mariupol.
