Sof Connect, Airport Operator Vasil Levsky of Sofia, announced today the launch of tenders for the design and construction of a new terminal 3, a courtyard, a transport hub and the modernization of Terminal 2 of the Airport 2. The company intends to invest 450 million leva in the project, with an additional 50 million Leva intended for equipment.

On September 10, 2024, the Ministry of Transport and Sof Connect presented an original plan for the future terminal 3 at Sofia Airport.

Sof Connect Managing Director Hesu Kambaliero said it is the largest public infrastructure development project expected to be implemented in Bulgaria over the next five years. “We are confident that it will attract companies with proven know -how and experience in the implementation of large -scale infrastructure projects, so that by 2031 Bulgaria has a top airport,” he added.

The object of the competition includes the design and construction of terminal 3, totaling 60,000 sq.m. The station will be connected to the fully operating terminal 2 and will increase the capacity of the airport from 7 million passengers to 20 million per year. The new terminal will include arrivals and departures, central security checkpoint, office and service areas, boarding corridors and commercial spaces.

Terminal 3 is planned to meet sustainability standards and have Breeam certification. The work will be carried out in phases to maintain the continuous operation of the airport. Existing terrestrial infrastructure, such as parking spaces, access roads and passenger transport zones, must remain operational throughout the construction period.

Terminal 2, 72,000 square meters, will be modernized, inter alia with the expansion of commercial spaces, the conversion of passenger compartment into offices and auxiliary spaces, as well as the upgrading of existing airport systems, such as information and fire safety.

The project includes upgrades to the technical infrastructure to support future expansion and the introduction of Skytrax 5 star standards for regional airports. These upgrades aim to improve passenger experience through digital, accessible solutions.

A new 9,000 -square -foot transport hub will be built, with 21 bus parking spaces and related infrastructure. Additional work will include airport access roads, airport roads, architectural, structural and construction projects, electrical and hydraulic systems, ICT infrastructure (information and communication technologies), specialized airport systems, fire protection, building management systems, transport.

Sof Connect invites interested parties to submit an expression of interest in executing the project by October 15. After examining the submissions, the operator will officially begin the procedure for a public notice.

At the same time, the Sofia Municipal Council approved the launch of a 24 -hour public transport service to Sofia Airport since July 15.
