Snowfalls hit the plateaus of northeast Turkey today, as the firefighters fight with the flames, at a distance of 1,600 kilometers west, on the coast.

It snowed throughout the northeast of the country, on an area of ​​about 100 kilometers long.

According to the state -run Anadolu news agency, heavy rains hit the province of Trebizond and turned into snow in certain sections, as air temperature fell.

On the contrary, at a distance of 1,600 kilometers west, the Izmir tourist area is still facing fires, powered by drought and winds of 85 kilometers/h.

Mercury is expected to increase this weekend, reaching at least 40 degrees Celsius at the beginning of next week on the west coast and southeast.

Authorities also issued a warning to Ankara residents, where mercury is expected to exceed 36 degrees Celsius.
