EU-China Summit on 1 April via video conference

THE President of China Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang will meet with leaders of the European Union the April 1stannounced today the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This is first confirmation from the Chinese side that a China-EU summit will be held this week. This meeting had been postponed several times against the background of a deterioration of relations between the two sides.

The leaders will meet via video conferenceForeign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said during a regular briefing for reporters in Beijing.

Lavrov in China: Moscow and Beijing agree to expand cooperation

Russia and China have agreed to expand their cooperation to a meeting of Foreign Ministers today in China, as announced by Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairsaccording to the Interfax news agency, in the midst of “difficult international conditions”, as described by Moscow.

Interfax reported that the co-operation includes building foreign policy co-ordination and formulating a common position on international affairs.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in the province of Anui in eastern China.

This is the first visit by a Russian diplomat to China since the start of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine. Beijing has refrained from condemning the Russian military attack, while criticizing Western sanctions against Russia.

Mr Lavrov has arrived in Tunisia (east), where a summit of the seven Afghanistan’s neighbors (excluding Russia and China: Pakistan, Iran, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) will be held by tomorrow. reported the Russian embassy via Weibo.

The head of the Taliban regime’s diplomacy, which regained power in Afghanistan last August, Amir Khan Mutaki, is also expected to attend the summit, according to China’s state-run New China News Agency.

At the same time, a meeting of the “consultation mechanism” for Afghanistan will be held, with the participation of diplomats from China, Russia, Pakistan, as well as the United States, according to Beijing.
