Plans are ongoing for a possible visit by US President Donald Trump to Britain, as sources say it is likely to travel to Scotland at the end of July or in early August to visit its golf stadiums in the country.
Scotland police have confirmed to Sky News that they are preparing for a “possible visit … later in the month”.
In particular, police sources reported that meetings are taking place this week, as up to 5,000 police officers in 12 hours may be required.
The final date has not yet been confirmed due to the US president’s volatile program, but his son, Eric Trump, had previously stated that his father would attend the official inauguration of a new golf course in Aberdinsir this summer.
If Trump’s trip will take place, it will be the first visit of the US president to Scotland since winning the US election.
The Trump family also holds the Turnberry resort in Irsire, on the west coast of Scotland.
Senior sources told Sky News that the planning predicts that the US president would first visit the Turnberry, before traveling north to Aberdinsir, with the journey lasting “more than a few days”.
Scottish Police Lieutenant General Emma Bond told Sky News that “the preparation is underway for a possible visit by the United States President to Scotland later in the month. Although there has not yet been official confirmation, it is important to prepare in advance for what would be an important police operation. “
