Over 30 prominent British politicians, lawyers and people of the arts and the letters denounce the British Museum in a letter to Prime Minister Kir Starmer that it is part of a “secret” and “accelerated campaign” with the aim of returning the Parthenon sculptures to Greece.
The 34 signatories – among them former Prime Minister Liz Trars, historian Dr. David Starki and Sir John Redwood – say they believe there is a “secret negotiation”, citing a “accelerated campaign”.
The text notes that some British museum commissioners “may need to review their position” and calls on any negotiations on the return of the Parthenon sculptures, otherwise they will face the risk of legal appeals.
The 34 letter signatories also warn that “they reserve the right to seek legal advice on the best way to protect the interests of the British public”, including “pursuing interim measures to stop any current or future negotiations until they are informed”.
The letter, published exclusively by Sky News, was also sent to Culture Minister Lisa Nadi and the British Museum’s commissioners.
The letter has been drawn up by the right group of Great British Pac, led by Conservative Claire Bullivant activist and former Deputy Lieutenant of the Reformers Ben Habib.
