In a striking shift in his attitude towards the war in Ukraine, Donald Trump announced from the Oval Office, in the presence of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, a new agreement to send a military aid to Kiev, which includes advanced Air Force systems.
The first arrays are expected to be sent within the next few days, with funding being covered by European countries through the Alliance.
“The arrays will be very sent in the coming days. They will begin to arrive soon. Some of the countries already have Patriot systems will grant and replace them, “he said.
“Today we closed an agreement to send weapons to Ukraine. We will send the best to NATO, “he said, adding that the implementation of the mission will be coordinated by the Alliance.
“We will build top -notch weapons and be sent to NATO,” Trump said.
“We build the best equipment, the best rockets, the best of all – and European countries know it. We have closed a deal today, “US President Donald Trump said, announcing a new deal on weapons to Ukraine.
“European countries are aware of the value of what we make. We closed today a deal – and I will let Mark talk about it – according to which we will send weapons and they will pay them, “Trump from the Oval Office said.
Donald Trump said, under the new agreement, European governments will carry military equipment and ammunition to Ukraine to strengthen its defense against the Russian invasion.
“The United States will not pay anything, we will not buy the equipment. We will build it, but they will take the cost, “he said, referring to NATO member states who will finance military assistance to Kiev.
At the same time, Donald Trump said Washington would impose “secondary tariffs” of about 100% on Russia within 50 days if there is no agreement to end the war in Ukraine.
Trump also reiterated his warning that US duties would be “painful” and would seriously hurt the Russian economy.
“I hope we don’t get to the point of imposing them, but I hear so many words. It’s just words, “he said.
“They are all words – and then rockets fall in Kyiv and kill 60 people. This has to stop. It must be over. “The US president said.
Asked how far away he is willing to arrive if Vladimir Putin escalates the situation, President Trump reacted strongly, answering “don’t ask me such a question, my goal is to end the war”.
Trump also welcomed the decision of many NATO members to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP at the recent Hague meeting, but reiterating his fixed complaint that the US is still disproportionate to Ukraine’s defense.
“The spirit they show is impressive,” he said. “After all, a very strong Europe is good,” the US president added.
Rutte: Europeans will pay their weapons for Ukraine
Mark Rutte said that European countries would buy weapons from the United States to equip Ukraine, expressing hope that equipment and military means would lead Russian President Vladimir Putin to “re -think” the peace negotiations.
As he said, Ukraine will receive “huge quantities of military equipment”, including rockets, air defense and ammunition systems.
“Speed is critical at this stage,” Rutte said, adding that the countries involved in the markets on behalf of Ukraine include Germany, Finland, Canada, Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Denmark.
