Nuland did not cite specific sources regarding those estimates.

Russia’s Defense Ministry in its latest announcement on March 25 confirmed the death of 1,351 Russian soldiers. The Ukrainian General Staff estimates that 17,000 Russian soldiers have been killed in Ukraine.

Evidence of losses in wartime is extremely difficult to confirm from independent sources.

In an interview, Nuland said that the decision of the Russian Ministry of Defense to reduce military operations in Kyiv and Chernihiv is a result of the tough defense of the Ukrainian army.

At the same time, he stressed that Russian troops are regrouping and will try to continue the attacks, possibly in other parts of Ukraine.
