The British Government announced a series sanction against three units of the Russian Military Intelligence Service (GRU) and 18 of its officers, who are responsible for years of malicious cyberspace that aimed at many countries, including UK.

According to the announcement, GRU systematically carries out cyberattacks and misinformation operations aimed at causing chaos, division and destabilization in Ukraine and worldwide, “with devastating impact on the real world”.

In 2022, Unit 26165, which imposed sanctions today, made online target recognition, facilitating Russian missile attacks in Mariupol, including the theater hit, where hundreds of civilians were killed, including children.

The sanctions are also targeted by officers responsible for the malicious software attack on Julia Skripal’s device, five years before the failed assassination attempt by herself and Sergei Skripal with the Neurotoxic factor NOVITSOK in Salsbury, England.

As the British Government reports, the Russia It has targeted media, telecommunications providers, political institutions and critical energy infrastructure in the United Kingdom.

“Gru’s spies are conducting a campaign to destabilize Europe, undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty, and threaten the security of British citizens,” said British Foreign Minister David Lami. “The Kremlin must have no doubt: we see what they are trying to do in the shadows and we will not tolerate it. That is why we take decisive action with sanctions against Russian spies. Putin’s hybrid threats and aggression will never shake our determination. ”

The UK government has pledged to step up its efforts to address hybrid threats, both internationally and internationally, in collaboration with an expanding international coalition involving the 32 NATO allies, the EU and its Member States, as well as US Member States.

In addition to GRU units and officers, the United Kingdom also imposes sanctions on three African Initiative leaders, a group that promotes content on social media. It is funded by Russia and employs Russian intelligence officers to carry out misinformation in West Africa. “This includes reckless efforts to undermine world -wide health initiatives in the region, promoting unfounded conspiracy theories to promote the Kremlin’s political agenda,” the British government argues.
