The president of Syria Ahmad al -Sarah received a report on slaughter against the Alawitein March and pledged to take action to prevent such violence, the presidency announced, without revealing what the document contains.
At the beginning of March, on the west coast of Syria, the worst massacres took place after he took power in December, a coalition led by Islamists. In accordance with Syrian Observatory for Human Rightsmore than 1,700 civilians were killed and most were members of the Alawite minority, from which the former president comes from Bashar al -Assad.
The Syrian Presidency set up a National Commission to investigate the events. Sarah received the report of this committee on July 13, on the same day that new inter -communal conflicts broke out, this time in the Druzon stronghold, in the Sueida province.
The president “will carefully consider the conclusions (…) to ensure that measures are taken” so that such violent incidents are not repeated, the presidency said in a statement.
On July 9, Amnesty International had asked the authorities to release the conclusions of the investigation and to lead the culprits to justice.
Damascus accused Assad’s armed supporters of attacking the security forces, who counterattacked. Many of the murders that followed were committed by security forces and teams working with them, according to survivors’ testimonies, with human rights protection organizations and videos released by the fighters. Residents of the area also accused security forces of abducting women and for summary executions.
