The re -enforcement of international sanctions on Iran will make the ‘situation’ more complicated with the his nuclear programAccording to state media, Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Garibabadi said today.
Garibabadi spoke ahead of the meeting on Friday with three European states, a group known as E3 – Britain, France and Germany.
E3 has stated that if no progress is made by the end of August for the Iranian nuclear program, it will activate the “Snapback” mechanism – a process by which the United Nations sanctions on Tehran will be re -enacted in the context of the 2015 agreement.
“We will express our position on the E3 comments on the Snapback mechanism, which we think lacks any legal basis,” said Garibabadi, referring to Friday’s meeting in Constantinople.
“In any case, our effort will be to see if we can find common solutions to manage the situation.”
The three European forces, along with China and Russia, are the remaining parties to the 2015 agreement on the Iranian nuclear program – from which the US retired in 2018.
“It is seven years that the nuclear agreement has not been implemented by Europeans after the US withdrawal from it. How can they claim that Iran does not follow the deal when they have not done it? “Garibabadi added.
Tehran denies that it aims to develop nuclear weapons and states that its nuclear program has only peaceful purposes.
