US President Donald Trump said today that he may soon visit China for a milestone trip over a period of tensions between the two countries in the fields of trade and security.
“President Si invited me to China and we will probably do this in a not -so -distant future,” Trump from the Oval Office at the White House told reporters.
“A little later, but not much later. And many people have invited me and we will make these decisions very soon. “
Reuters has reported that Trump and Si’s assistants have discussed the possibility of a meeting between the two leaders during a US president’s trip to Asia later this year, citing two people with knowledge of the plans.
Although plans for a meeting have not been finalized, discussions on both sides of the Atlantic have included a possible Trump attitude around the period of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Synod in South Korea or talks on the sidelines of the Synod that will take place during the October 30th period.
Another possible trip could be a ceremony in Beijing on September 3rd for the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, where Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to attend.
The White House and the Chinese government did not want to comment on Reuters’ information.
Trump made the comment on a possible meeting with Si during contacts with Philippine President Ferdinand Markos J., an important ally in the Pacific, who, as Trump said, was successfully removed from China, even if he did not have two countries.
The US president has sought to alleviate the tensions with Beijing in recent weeks, pausing from a buddy warfare instead of an eye that has upset global trade and supply chains.
Trump has given a deadline until August 12 for the US and China to reach a definitive agreement on duties.
Other issues that cause friction between the two countries include China’s support in Russia, the movement of fentanyl, regional security concerns and exit bans against US nationals.
