The Syrian transitional government called for Turkey’s support to strengthen its defensive potential, according to Turkish officials, after two weeks of conflict between Druzo and Bedouins who escalated tensions in Syria and caused Israeli intervention.

Turkish defense ministry officials said Syria has also sought assistance in combating “terrorist organizations”, including the Islamic State organization.

Turkey, who has long expressed its readiness to help Syria, is working to provide education, consulting and technical support, with the aim of enhancing the country’s defense capacity, the same sources add.

Turkey, which supports the transitional Syrian government under President Ahmad al-Saraa, seeks to sign a defense agreement with Syria, which could also include the establishment of Turkish military bases on Syrian territory.

Ankara also supports the agreement reached between the transitional Syrian administration and the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to join the National Syrian Army. However, the implementation of the agreement has been frozen, with a basic thorn in whether the SDFs will remain a single unit within the new army or completely dissolve.
