One man was killed and another was injured in an incident with shootings on Friday morning at a student home at the University of New Mexico in Albukerk, according to a statement by the Foundation.
The campus closed “for precautionary reasons”, while the alleged perpetrator remains unmistakable and “bears a weapon”, as the university notes, inviting those in the Central Campus to remain in a safe place and the rest to avoid the area.

The incident occurred around 3:00 am. Local time in the Casas Del Rio complex, where the police arrived two people with shooting wounds. One succumbed, while the second is hospitalized with wounds that do not threaten his life.
The state of the state of New Mexico has undertaken the investigation into the deadly incident.
This is the latest incident of at least 33 involving a weapon attack in a school or university space in the US since the beginning of 2025, according to a CNN analysis. Of these, 14 have been recorded in primary and secondary schools and 19 in universities or colleges.
