The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will set up online surveillance missions at the Russian-controlled Chernobyl and Zaporizhia nuclear power plants, according to Petro Kotin, head of Ukraine’s management company Energoatom.
The IAEA will make use of the influence to ensure that Russian nuclear officials do not interfere in the operation of nuclear power plants that have been occupied by Russian military forces since the Russian invasion of Ukraine last month.
“The IAEA can exert influence and it must do so and this issue will be discussed,” said Peter Kotin, adding that he could not reveal the content of the talks during a meeting with IAEA chief Rafael Grossi, who visited Ukraine.
