An armed attack by the Sunni organization Jaya al-Antl on a courthouse in Sistan-Baluchistan province in southeastern Iran, resulted in at least five people losing their lives and 13 injured, according to Iranian media.

Three perpetrators also died in the clashes that followed with security forces, as a senior police officer said at the IRNA news agency. He said that a mother with her child was among those killed by the gunmen, who threw a grenade in the building in Zachendan, the capital of Sistan-Baluchistan.

In a statement posted to her Telegram account, the organization Juha al-Antl assumed responsibility for the attack and called on “all citizens to abandon the conflict area for their safety”.

In the province of Sistan-Baluchistan, near the border with Pakistan and Afghanistan, there is a minority of Sunni velvehs who denounce their economic marginalization and political exclusion.

In this province there are often conflicts between security forces and armed organizations, including Sunni fighters and separatists who argue that they are fighting for more rights and autonomy.
