Four dead and one missing is the fire report so far that broke out at dawn in a hostel where people with mental disability were resided in southwestern France.

The site of the fire in the area of Monmoros, south of the city of Anglem, was visited by Charlotte Parmenie-Lekok, a person responsible for people with disabilities, who clarified that the owner of the hostel and three tenants were found dead.

The firefighters rushed to the spot about 20 minutes after they were notified around 04:30 (local time, 07:30 in Greece). Jean-Sarl Zombar, a spokesman for the Sarad Prefecture, said firefighters initially removed a man from the burning building without his senses, who lost the battle to keep alive. Two corpses were later found in the ruins and another one in the afternoon, he said at a press conference.

A total of 85 firefighters with 24 vehicles were mobilized to extinguish the fire. Four people were injured due to the fire, one of whom is being treated in serious condition.

There were 14 adults in this hostel, aged 20 to 75: Eight people with mental disability, four companions and the two owners.

The causes of the fire remain unclear so far. The tragedy occurred almost two years after the fire that broke out in an old barn that had turned into a hostel for people with disabilities in Vinjenim, Eastern France, causing the deaths of 11 people.
