Ukrainian corruption authorities announced on Saturday that they have revealed a large corruption scandal associated with the supply of military unmanned aircraft (drones) and signal interference systems at swollen prices, just two days after their rehabilitation.
NABU’s independence (National Corruption) and SAPO (specialized prosecution against corruption) was restored by the Ukrainian parliament on Thursday, after the Demonstration bar, the largest in the country after Russia’s invasion in 2022.
In a joint announcement of the two social media services, NABU and SAPO reported that they had taken an active MP, two local officials and an unspecified number of members of the National Guard staff to bribe. However, they do not name any of the involved.
“The aim of the network was to conclude state contracts with suppliers at deliberately inflated prices,” they said in a statement, adding that the offenders had received a starter of up to 30% of the cost of a contract. Four people were arrested.
“Zero tolerance for corruption, a substantial teamwork for revealing corruption and, therefore, a fair penalty,” Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski wrote in a post on the Telegram.
Zelenski, who has acquired extensive presidential powers during the war and still enjoys widespread acceptance between the Ukrainians, has recently been forced to move on to a rare political turn when his attempt to put Nabu and Sapo under the control of the Attorney General.
Zelenski said he took into account the wrath of the people and submitted a bill to re -establish the independence of the two authorities, which was passed by parliament on Thursday.
Ukraine’s European allies praised the movement of the Ukrainian president, as they had previously expressed concerns about the abolition of the two authorities’ independence.
Supreme European officials have stressed to Zelenski that Ukraine is jeopardizing its nomination for joining the European Union, limiting the powers of the anti -corruption authorities.
“It is important that anti -corruption institutions operate independently and the law approved on Thursday guarantees any possibility of a real fight against corruption,” Zelenski wrote in his post on Saturday, following his meeting with the authorities.
