The Lebanese Foreign Ministry today condemned Iran’s “blatant and unacceptable intervention” following Tehran’s statements expressing its “opposition” to Lebanese’s decision to disarm Hezbollah, Iran’s ally.

The ministry “condemns the recent statements by Ali Akbar Velagia, a consultant to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who constitute a blatant and unacceptable intervention in Lebanese internal affairs,” the ministry said in a post on the platform.

Velagia had earlier stated that “the Islamic Republic of Iran is certainly opposed to Hezbollah’s disarmament, as Iran has always helped the people of Lebanese and resistance, and continues to do so.”

“Some high -ranking Iranian officials continue to have doubtful positions on Lebanese internal decisions that concern the Islamic Republic,” the ministry added, before reminding Tehran leaders that it would be better for Iran.

Already at the end of April, the ministry had called on the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon Mojtaba Amani for his statements in relation to Hezbollah’s “disarmament”.

On the X platform, the Iranian ambassador had described the disarmament plan as a “conspiracy against certain states” without clarifying who or naming Hezbollah.

After being called to the ministry, the Iranian ambassador withdrew.

The government commissioned the army on Tuesday to process a plan to disarm Hezbollah so that it was implemented by the end of the year, in which the Shiite movement is opposed.

On Wednesday, Tehran said she would support any decision by Hezbollah, which has been weakened long after her last war against Israel and the fall of her former ally, Bashar al -Assad in Syria.
