European leaders who make up the “alliance of the willing” are going to be a teleconference on Sunday, before critical talks between Donald Trump and Ukrainian Volodimir Zelenski next week.

The alliance, co -chaired by Sir Kir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz, aims to bring countries to protect the peace agreement in Ukraine, Sky News notes.

The top issue on the agenda of Sunday’s meeting will be to secure a specific commitment by Donald Trump for a security guarantee that will act as a strong counterweight to any peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.

European leaders seemed optimistic of the US president’s most recent hints on the issue, knowing that the US military force is likely to prevent Vladimir Putin from attempting again in the future.

They will also discuss how to bring Zelenski back to talks, as Trump’s and Putin’s meeting in Alaska left him on the sidelines.

In coordinated statements, European leaders said that Zelensky had to play a more important role in future talks and that peace cannot be achieved without him.

It will be difficult to persuade the unpredictable US government to change its approach, which has proven almost impossible in the past.

When Trump returned to the White House and made it clear that the US would no longer provide a white check for the protection of peace, European leaders decided that they had to take action and in March the “alliance of the willing” was created.

Since then, information on the peacekeeping efforts of the Allies is fragmented, but we know that it includes over 30 countries, which have been requested to commit to providing any military support they can, including troops.

However, the team has shown consistent efforts to use its limited influence to put pressure on the US.

This will continue in view of the critical talks between Trump and Zelenski, which are due to take place in Washington on Monday.
