A quantity of half a ton of drug Khat found and seized its controllers Independent Public Revenue Authority At Athens Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos“, As announced today.
Khat, the natural coca, as it is called, is a psychotropic addictive substance, derived from the Catha Edulis plant, cultivated in the Horn of Africa, on the South Arabic Peninsula and along the Eastern African coast.
The illegal substance was hidden within four lading with goods declared as curtains, sheets and fabrics, transitted by Israel with a final destination in the US. In a sampling inspection, carried out by the auditors of the Athens Customs Airport Customs Office, at the Airport’s Temporary Lost Warehouse, they identified the hidden parcels with the dried leaves of the KHAT and seized a total amount of half. It is estimated that the value of the confiscated quantity is 1,500,000 euros.
This is the largest amount of finding this drug (the previous one again in AIA, 458 kg, 4.12.2014). The last was in 2022, at AIA, 34kg.
