An abandoned fortress over a rocky island He remained abandoned for 17 years has turned into a place to welcome a frantic party, with his own nightclub.

The island Thorne It once housed about 100 officers who manned a 19th -century Napoleonic fortress to protect the nearby Milford Haven, which was then an important naval base on the Pambrokeshire coasts in southwestern Wales.

In 1947 it was converted into a hotel and rented for a birthday party, weddings and parties of bachelors, before it was sold in 1999.

Despite proposals for a hotel reopening, the island remained empty for 17 years, until former CEO Mike Conner bought it for £ 555,000 in May 2017.

Now, after five years of painful renovations – the building materials arrived by helicopter – the island can be yours for the impressive £ 3m.

The islet of almost 2.5 acres has a panoramic view of the coast and accommodation of about 750 sqm, with a helipad and its own nightclub.

Mr Conner, who organized a big party there for his 50th birthday, hopes that anyone who takes over it will enjoy the island as much as he does.

He believes that he has enormous potential to act as a tourist attraction or, without neighbors to be bothered, to host “the most incredible rave parties”.

Speaking to the BBC, he said he did not imagine where he was involved, as the island had no electricity, water and a way to remove the sewage.

“My wife was pretty angry when I told her I bought it, she said she would go as soon as she had a toilet with a binocular, which is quite reasonable,” she said.

The cost of achieving this milestone was £ 200,000, after discovering that it had to cut a 4.5 -meter rock in order to have a kind of drainage.

Employees stayed on the island for two weeks during the work, using a generator to charge their phones while washed at sea.

Now that the project is completed, visitors are reaching a large entrance that leads to a large open lounge, a dining room and a seating area with a prominent traditional masonry, vaulted ceilings, double windows and wood stoves, according to its registration at Strutt & Parker Media.

The kitchen is open with modern equipment, prominent masonry and sea views. It currently has five bedrooms, which can accommodate up to 20 people.

As it is completely off the network, it has a number of renewable energy systems, such as photovoltaics, heat pumps for hot water and underfloor heating and a 250,000 -liter rain harvesting system.
