NATO Secretary -General Mark Rutte stated that the integration of her is not discussed Ukraine to NATObut there is talk of security guarantees in Kiev type “Article 5”, which provides for a collective defense, in the country where the Russian army invaded in February 2022.

“The situation is as follows – the US and some other countries have said that they are opposed to the NATO Member State. NATO’s official position is (…) that the road to Ukraine’s accession is irrevocable, “Mr Route said during an interview with Fox News.

“But what we are discussing here is not to become the country of NATO, what we are discussing is Article 5’s type security guarantees and what exactly does this mean will be discussed now more specifically,” he added.

Article 5 of the founding treaty of the Western Military Alliance stipulates that an attack on its Member State is perceived as an attack on all. Ukraine’s accession to NATO is a strategic goal of Kiev, which has been registered with the Constitution.

However, this is a red line for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Mr Rutte said that security guarantees of this type can be offered to Kiev instead of joining.

According to the Alliance Secretary General, there was no discussion on the development of NATO troops in Ukrainian territory.
