Ukraine hit a basic pumping station in the Druzhba oil pipeline carrying fuel from Russia to Europe, interrupting supplies to Hungary and Slovakia, the only EU Member States that continue to receive Russian oil, notes the Guardian.

As Ukraine aims at vital infrastructure for Moscow’s war effort in response to the Russian attack, Ukrainian unmanned Ukraine commander Robert Brovdi announced the attack on the UNECHA pumping station in the Bryansk area.

Bryansk Prime Minister Alexander Bogochaz said in a Telegram post that Ukraine had fired Himars and Drones missiles in the area in a combined attack.

The governments of Hungary and Slovakia sent a letter to the European Commission, the EU Executive Body, stating that supplies of Russian oil may be interrupted for at least five days due to damage.

“The natural and geographical reality is that without this pipeline, the safe feeding of our countries is simply impossible,” their foreign ministers, Péter Szijjártó and Juraj Blanár, said in a letter.

The Ukrainian attack triggered Budapest’s angry reaction, which is supplied more than half of its crude oil from the Druzhba pipeline. Szijjártó wrote on Facebook that the pipeline was attacked “for the third time in a short time”.

While the other 25 EU Member States stopped the Russian oil markets as part of the block sanctions after Moscow’s complete invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Hungary and Slovakia remained outside.

The EU aims to complete Russian oil and gas until the end of 2027, but Budapest and Bratislava oppose such a move, arguing that Russian energy supplies are vital to their national economies.

Despite Trump’s pressure to reach an agreement that would end the conflict, the three -and -a -half -year war continued unabated this week as Russia launched an air attack near Ukraine’s border with the EU on Thursday and continued its destructive attacks.

Ukraine has repeatedly bombarded Russian oil refineries, including targets, resulting in wholesale petrol prices in Russia to launch historically high levels in recent days. Moscow systematically targets Ukraine’s natural gas infrastructure, which is vital for heating in winter and as fuel for basic industries.

The Druzhba pipeline starts from Russia and transports oil through Belarus and Ukraine to Slovakia and Hungary. It was the second time that oil supply was interrupted to EU countries this week.

Slovak’s Moscow -friendly Prime Minister Robert Fitso adopted the Kremlin line and came to the side of Orban as a pro -Russian voice in the EU.

In May, Fitso talked to Putin in the Kremlin before becoming the only EU leader who attended the parade of Russian military forces in Ukraine on May 9th.
