Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov today accused Western countries of seeking to “block” peace negotiations for Ukrainewhile the diplomatic efforts to settle the collision are cancerous.
“All they do is look for a pretext to block the negotiations,” Lavrov said in an interview on public television broadcast through the Telegram application.
Russian Foreign Minister also criticized the position of Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski who, as he said, “insists, sets terms, requires-at each price-direct meeting” with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
Responding to a question about the threats of “Western countries to impose sanctions on Russia, if there are no negotiations”, Sergei Lavrov described them as “trying to circumvent the process started by Presidents Putin and Trump, which did very good results”.
“We hope that these efforts will fail,” he added.
US president mediation attempts Donald Trumpwho wants to put an end to the war in Ukraine, culminated with a summit with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on August 15 in Alaska, then three days later, with the reception of the White House of Volodimir Zelenski and European allies.
However, the positions of the two camps still look like bridges.
Russia launched a large -scale military attack on Ukraine in February 2022 and is currently controlling about 20% of the neighboring country, including Crimea, which it had annexed in 2014.
While Moscow and Kiev are accused of preventing the event of a meeting of their leaders, Donald Trump announced Friday that it is giving a “two weeks” deadline before making decisions on the line that will follow in relation to the conflict.
