The French Foreign Ministry responded to Marco Rubio over the US Secretary of State’s allegations that France’s plan to recognize a Palestinian state undermined talks about a truce in Gaza.
“The recognition of the Palestinian state did not cause the negotiations to collapse for the hostage,” he said in a new account on X (formerly Twitter) called French Response, a government spokesman confirmed that he was linked to the French Foreign Ministry.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Baro announced on Friday that his ministry would launch the French Response as part of a strategy “reaction to those who want to hurt the image of France”.

Rubio said earlier this week that French President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to recognize a Palestinian state “made any possibility of a success of the ceasefire talks” between Israel and the Hamas armed organization, repeating similar accusations. According to him, Hamas left the negotiations “at the moment, the same day that France made its announcement”.
Fesch Response account posts quote the time stamps publications on social media by Macron and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to argue that “the negotiations had already collapsed before the French announcement”.
The French Response also referred to a declaration by a UN conference in July, at the initiative of France and Saudi Arabia, stating that “the recognition and realization of the Palestinian state is an essential and irreplaceable element to achieve the solution of the two states”.
At the same time, he recorded a post by US special envoy Steve Whitkov, announcing that the United States would be withdrawn from a ceasefire talks, as Hamas did not act in good faith.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reinforces its potential in detecting misinformation through “monitoring hubs” on social media and created the “automatic answer account” to “contradict the unfounded attacks that target us,” the French Foreign Minister told BFM TV.
Macron had announced in July that France would recognize a Palestinian state. Since then, similar announcements have been made by the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Belgium.
