Hezbollah is not going to surrender its weapons, one of its MPs warned today one day after the Lebanese government announced that the procedure for the disarmament of the pro -Heavenly, Shiite organization would soon be implemented.
Under the pressure of the US and because of the fear of intensifying Israeli bombings, the government of Nawaf Salam asked the Armed Forces in August to draw up a plan to disarm Hezbollah by the end of the year. Following the Government Council meeting on Friday, on this issue that divides the country, the government said the army would begin implementing the plan, without specifying when and how.
Hezbollah “will not abandon” her weapons “by no means and for no reason,” said MP Hasan Ezedin, according to the official Ani agency in Lebanon.
Those who made the “jerk and faint decision” of disarmament and those who accepted it, “should rethink it and correct their mistakes,” he continued. “Otherwise, they will be responsible for the consequences they could follow.”
Hezbollah is the only organization that did not deposit its weapons when the civil war (1975-90) ended in Lebanon. It opposes its disarmament by accusing the authorities of playing the game of Israel and the US. After dominating the political life of the country for many years, it came out of the war with Israel in 2024. Its leadership was decimated and part of its weapons was destroyed.
