Kamala Harris believes that it was “reckless” to allow former President Joe Biden to decide on his own whether to claim his re -election in 2024. However, as she admits, she felt she was the last person who could ask him to retire, according to her new book.
Biden, Democrat, abandoned his election campaign on July 21, 2024, after a bad appearance on the debate with Republican candidate Donald Trump, who made partners and party executives openly doubt whether he could handle a second campaign.
“Of all the people in the White House, I was in the worst position to say that he had to retire. I knew it would look incredibly self -sufficient if I was advising him not to run, “writes Harris in the book 107 Days, according to an excerpt published by The Atlantic magazine.
“It’s a decision of Joe and Jill. We all said it, as a mantra, as if they were hypnotized. Was it a favor or recklessness? After all, I think it was reckless. The stakes were just very big. It shouldn’t be an option that would leave room for the ego or a person’s ambition. It had to be more than a personal decision. “
Harris, 60, became the Democratic candidate and had just 107 days to present her candidacy to the American public. He was defeated by Trump, 79, today, in the November elections and has since kept a low profile, even saying in July that he will not be a candidate for California.
Biden’s unexpected departure was accompanied by questions about whether the White House hid critical information about his spiritual clarity. His closest associates denied it, arguing that he was absolutely capable of making important decisions.
In her book, Harris denies that there was a conspiracy to conceal Biden’s age weaknesses, although she recognizes that they became more intense as the campaign was scale.
“Even on his worst day, he was more trained, more capable of judging and much more compassionate than Donald Trump at his best,” he notes. “But in his 81s, Joe was tired.”
Biden, the oldest president in US history, is currently 82 years old and has been diagnosed with “aggressive” prostate cancer who has made bones.
Harris, a former California senator, was Vice President in the period 2021–2025, the first woman originating from South Asia and African -American to serve in this position.
