Poland’s two largest political factions rarely miss an opportunity to criticize each other. In the face of the Russian threat, however, they seem to be unity.

On Wednesday, however, the two leaders made every effort to self -crush, avoiding sharp comments.

“We, the president, I and my ministers, are absolutely determined to act as a punch,” Tusk told the Polish Parliament. “We have to pass this test united. There should be no crack in which the enemy, our eastern neighbor, can get his nails, “he said.

Instead of the usual contemptuous yogurts, the members of the opposition (PIS) applauded Tusk when he underlined the unity of the two political camps against the threat against the country, saying that “when the Poles are united, they are invincible.”

Cooperation instead of confrontation

The Russian violation of the Polish airspace forced the two political camps to cooperate. Navrotsky and Tusk met twice on Wednesday morning to discuss the response to repeated Russian violations.

The head of the National Security Council, Slavomir Cenkievic, one of the close associates of President Navrotsky, even spoke of a “exemplary cooperation” between the office of the president and the government of Prime Minister Tusk.

President Navrotsky described the violation of the Polish airspace as “an unprecedented moment in NATO history and the modern history of Poland”. Prime Minister Tusk added that “it was the first time that hostile Russian dresses have been rejected over NATO territory.” The two leaders of Poland agreed to rely on Article 4 of the NATO Treaty, calling for official consultations with alliance members.

Tusk: “Solidarity words are not enough”

Tusk, for his part, wanted to give up a dramatic appeal to the country’s allies, saying that although Poland is grateful for all words of solidarity, they are not enough.

“We are expecting more support,” he said, adding that the war in Ukraine is not a Polish or Ukrainian issue, but a “confrontation that Russia has declared throughout the free world.”

Poland spends 4.7% of its defense GDP and hopes to benefit significantly from “Safe”, the EU’s common defense tool.

“Neither Poland nor NATO will be intimidated,” Foreign Minister Radoslav Sikorski said. “Russia must finally understand that the effort to rebuild the old empire is doomed to failure.”

On Thursday, Poland completely closed its borders with Belarus, and the joint military exercises “Zapad 2025” (West 2025) began in Belarus and Russia yesterday.

Thus, Warsaw is on the alert, waiting for the challenges to continue. Digital Affairs Minister Christoph Gavkovsky warned of Russian and Belarusian misinformation campaigns. “False internet news is constantly increasing,” Gavkovsky said. According to him, “behind this organized campaign are Russia and Belarus.”

Poland rely primarily in the US

In terms of security, Poland is primarily based on the US.

US President Donald Trump has recently assured President Navrotsky that he does not intend to withdraw US soldiers from Poland. On Wednesday, Navrotsky had a telephone conversation with Trump about the Russian dress incident. “The conversation was part of a series of consultations I had with our allies,” the Polish president later wrote in X. “Today’s talks have confirmed the solidarity of our allies.”

Despite the demonstration of unity in Warsaw, Tusk called on the National Conservative Opposition to stop its attacks on Germany. “The political enemy of Poland, who does not hide his hostile intentions, is beyond our eastern border, not the west,” the prime minister said. “Don’t look for an enemy in the West,” because “the real enemy we have in the East is enough.”

Two German Patriot arrays in eastern Poland also participated in the Russian drones. “After the invasion of Russian drones in Poland, NATO should not even take a step back,” Bartos Bielinsky wrote in the Gazeta Wyborcza newspaper.

“The demonstration of power and unity of the alliance must be overall and enduring. And the European NATO states can do this even without the US support, “he added.
