It is not the first time for the metropolitan police in the London called to manage a scandal. Now, another case sees the light of publicity. After investigation of British Network BBCPolice made 9 officers available and referred them to the Police Ethics Committee.

Who and what about?

The investigation was done at the police station of Charing Cross, One of the most central points of the British capital. According to the charges, which will be detailed in the forthcoming BBC Panorama documentary, police are accused of excessive use of force, biased and misogynistic comments and inability to deal with or complain of inappropriate behavior.

The independent office responsible for the behavior of the Police in England and Wales (IOPC) said it has helped the investigation, which concerns nine of its active officers Metropolitan Police, of a former, but also one who belongs to the detention service.

The incidents took place both during service and outside, from August 2024 to January 2025.

The reactions of the involved

The Director of the Independent Office responsible for the behavior of the Police, Amanda Rowhe told the BBC that “there are alarming allegations concerning a large number of people and we understand public concern, as earlier investigation has been made again for the same police station.”

It is important to note that the office in 2022 had similar findings for the police station, including a homophobic, racist and misogynistic group of talks on the Whatsappp platform, one of the most popular social media.

The assistant of the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, MatteHe called these behaviors “shameless”, adding that “the police are taking immediate action to remove the arrest and detention team of this department as well as its leadership, as well as the governors of the wider Westminster region.”
