The International Atomic Energy Organization (IAEA) said yesterday Tuesday that its climicry at the Southeast Ukraine Nuclear Station of Zaporizia perceived an artillery attack nearby and saw black smoke rising in the sky from three different points.
The step was informed that artillery missiles fell off the factory perimeter, about 400 meters from a diesel fuel storage area, a DAAE statement said.
“Although there have been no reports of victims or damage to equipment, the incident once again underlines the constant risk of nuclear security”said the head of the IAEA Rafael Grossi.
Zaporizia’s nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe, is in the hands of Moscow forces since the first weeks of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Kiev and Moscow are often accused of attacks in the area, while the International Atomic Energy Organization repeatedly calls for “maximum self -restraint” of the warring sides to avoid the risk of nuclear destruction.
The IAEA plays a role in preserving the safety of Ukraine nuclear power stations since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022. It often sends steps to inspect active nuclear reactors to Riven and Khmelnitsky (west).
