The President of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, welcomed the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to the Capitol.
The Priest of Orthodoxy had the opportunity to raise issues that concern the Patriarchate and highlight his priorities.
The focus was on religious freedom, the protection of Christian communities and the promotion of dialogue between different religions.
The Ecumenical Patriarchate enjoys the inter -party respect for Congress, which recognizes its spiritual weight, its steadfast commitment to peace and the defense of human rights and religious freedoms.
Later, Mr. Bartholomew will be in the Church of St. Catherine in Virginia, where he will perform doxology and speak to the faithful, conveying the message of the Mother Church to the Orthodox of the area.
His tour of the American capital will be closed with a reception in his honor, in the presence of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, leading politicians and personalities of the community. The dinner is organized by the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew Foundation and Lord Ioannis Koudouni.
