An important plan to create a casino in New York, in the Times Square district, which had caused the anger of many Brondway theaters, was rejected today by the committee responsible for examining the files with the proposals.

The Commission, which consisted of elected officials of the municipality and the New York state, was called upon to evaluate eight different plans in different areas and rejected that of Brodway with four votes against two.

Jason Laks, president of the Broadway League, a strong professional union in the showroom, welcomed a decision that defends “the magic of the district”. “A casino can be made anywhere, but Brondway lives here only,” he commented.

The show professionals and the residents of the district, one of the most touristy in the city, did not hide their concern about the arrival of customers who could turn their backs on the shops and theaters of the area, mainly famous for their musicals.

Of the $ 5.4 billion plan, which envisaged the creation of a casino, a hotel and a luxury restaurant, was led by the casino colossus and the entertainment Caesars Entertainments, mainly related to rapper and businessman Jay Zi with Roc Nation.

His financiers had received the support of Pastor Al Sarpton, a historical activist in the battle for political rights and other city figures.

Times Square’s plan was one of the eight candidate designs in New York and its suburbs, competing to receive up to three casino licenses granted by the state. The competition also included another Manhattan space, near the United Nations headquarters, another in Queens and another in Bronx.

The winners will have to pay at least $ 500 million to get a license.
