Germany: New sanctions against Russia demanded by the Minister of Economy

by

“Vladimir Putin has essentially already lost the war,” said Economy and Climate Protection Minister Robert Habeck, referring to the atrocities in Bukhara after the withdrawal of Russian troops. new sanctions against Russia. However, he again rejected a possible embargo on the import of Russian gas, but announced independence from Russian coal by the end of the summer and from Russian oil by the end of the year.

“We are pursuing a strategy of decoupling from Russian gas, coal and oil, but not immediately (…). Rosneft. This must be resolved in order to guarantee security of supply – and for Poland. We are working on that. Germany has made progress in this since the first weeks of the war. We want to become completely independent of Russian oil and coal. “From the latter, detoxification is foreseen until the end of the summer, while from the oil until the end of 2022”, said Mr. Habeck, speaking earlier tonight on a show of the second channel of the German public television ZDF, indirectly responding to the Minister of Defense Christine Lamb , which, due to the atrocities in Bouka, was in favor of discussing a possible embargo on the import of Russian energy from the European Union. Rosneft owns, among other things, a refinery in the Svend area of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, which supplies the wider area of Berlin and Brandenburg, as well as western Poland, with petrol, diesel, heating oil and kerosene.

However, the Minister of Economy called for the immediate tightening of sanctions against Moscow, with a fifth package, which was also mentioned earlier by Chancellor Olaf Solz. The new sanctions, according to Mr Habeck, must come “quickly, within a week” and will include “personal sanctions against other people from the Putin regime, as well as technical goods”. Possible financial market sanctions are also expected to be considered. “The killings, the war crimes we have seen now, will only increase the pressure on Putin. “It’s terrible what is happening there,” he said, commenting on the new revelations. “Putin has already lost the war. This is due to the sanctions, the surrender of weapons and the heroic struggle of the Ukrainians. He can even win battles. “But the assumption that he served Russia in order to emerge stronger from the war is out of the question.”

Regarding the shipment of weapons to Ukraine, Mr. Habek stated that it will continue in the near future. “We will do everything except get involved in the war,” he said.
