Aleksandar Vuτςiίζει is securing his re-election as President of the Republic of Serbia.
According to unofficial results announced by the polling company IPSOS / Cesid, which had observers in polling stations, with 60.9% of the votes counted, Aleksandar Vucic received 59.3% and is elected in the first round.
Second is said to be the candidate of the coalition “United for Serbia” Zdravko Ponos with 17.4%.
For Parliament, according to the same source, Vucic’s Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) received 43.2%. It is followed by the coalition “United for Serbia” with 17.4% and third is the Socialist Party (SPS) with 11.6%.
Four other parties received more than 3% and will be represented in Parliament.
Similar percentages, with a small difference, were announced by Aleksandar Vucic himself. Commenting on the entry of three extremist nationalist parties into Parliament, the Serbian president said it was due to the war in Ukraine, implying that some voters chose parties that openly supported Russia.
It was impressive that the Central Election Commission, one hour after the polls closed, announced that it would not give press conferences on the result until tomorrow night.
Opposition parties reacted strongly, calling for the overthrow of democratic institutions.
Characteristic of yesterday’s elections in Serbia was the relatively large turnout at the polls: it exceeded 60%, while in previous elections in the last seven years the turnout did not exceed 57%.
