Anger in the political world of Israel has caused today the decision of the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada to recognize a Palestinian state, in a move that deepens Tel Aviv’s isolation on the international stage.
Knesset President Amir Ochana launched an attack on British Prime Minister Kir Starmer, describing him as “a modern -day appeal”.
Even tougher was the far -right Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir, who spoke of “rewarding the murderers” and called for “immediately retaliation: the application of Israeli sovereignty to Judea and Samaria (as Israeli calls it).
At the same wavelength, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich stated that “the time when Britain and other countries were defining the future of Israel is over” and added that “the only answer to this anti-Israeli movement is to apply sovereignty to its historical territories.
On the opposition side, Yair Golan, leader of the Left Party Democrats, said that “unilateral recognition” of a Palestinian state is “serious diplomatic failure of Netanyahu and Smotrich” and described the recognition as “destructive”.
The hostage and missing forum, representing the families of the hostages abducted on October 7, accused the three countries of “unconditionally recognition of a Palestinian state, while 48 hostages remain in the captivity of Hamas after the massacre of 7 October”.
There has been no official reaction from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office so far.
