A letter to US President Donald Trump has been sent by Hamas, asking him to guarantee a 60 -day truce in Gaza – where the Israeli army continues land occupation operations – in return for the release of half of the other 48 hostages.

The news was reported Monday by Fox News, citing a senior Trump government official and a source involved in the negotiations.

Source with knowledge of the matter confirmed the reference to the Times of Israel.

It is not clear, however, whether the letter also concerned the issue of Hamas’s disarmament, an Israeli request that the organization has rejected.

According to Fox News, Hamas’ letter to Trump is currently in Qatar, a mediator in talks, and will be handed over to the US president later in the week.

Hamas leaders have not yet signed the letter to Trump, but they may do so in the coming days, according to a source cited by Channel 12.

Meanwhile, Trump is today to meet with Arabs and Muslim leaders in New York to present them for the first time his own plan to end the Gaza war.
