Donald Trump is preparing a new trip to Asia, with a possible stop in Japan before South Korea.

A visit to Tokyo, Washington’s narrowest ally in East Asia and a significant partner on trade and security issues will take place while the two countries continue to negotiate the implementation of their agreement on tariffs.

It will also be the first opportunity of the Republican president to meet with the successor of Japanese Prime Minister Sigiros Isiba, who is leaving.

Trump has already scheduled a trip to Asia, where he is expected to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit (APEC), which will take place on October 31-November 1 in Gongju, South Korea.

During his stay in Asia, Trump said last week that he would meet with Chinese President Xi Jing for their first meeting since the US president returned to the White House in January.

His potential trip to Japan is expected to precede a visit to South Korea, officials said.

Trump’s insistence on denouncing what he considers “commercial imbalances” with Asian countries has caused turmoil in the region, affecting mainly export economies such as Japan.

Isiba had negotiated with Trump a preliminary framework for a framework to avoid increasing duties in Japanese exports to the US, but many issues remain open.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anuar Ibrahim has stated that Trump is also expected to attend the Southeast Asian Association (ASEAN) meeting in Kuala Lumpur, from 26 to October 28th.
