In the first half of 2025 asylum grants were reduced to 26.5% from 59% to 72% over the last four years. At the same time, refugee deportations in Greece increased. Asylum granting rate in Germany decreased to 26.5% in the first half of 2025. This is evident from the federal government’s response to the party’s MPs Clara Binger, mentioned by the newspaper Osnabr. In the corresponding periods of the last four years, the percentage ranged between 59% and 72%.

Authorities make faster decisions

The left -wing MP told the German newspaper that the limited number of asylum grants confirms the Left’s criticism of safely defined countries of origin. Due to the summary procedures for examining asylum applications, it is often the case that the competent authorities will not distinguish the need for protection. Clara Binger also pointed out that other EU member states are recorded in many cases higher rates of protection regime.

The German government’s response also shows that in the first half of the year, the German judicial authorities made 52,000, more and faster decisions than in previous years. Nearly 9,000 rejected by the Federal Migration and Refugee Authority (BAMF) asylum applications received a retrospective protection status in the first six months of 2025 following a court order or review of the request by the competent services. “It would be naive to believe that there is no link between the political climate and the decision -making process by the asylum authorities,” the German MP told the newspaper.

Germany deportes more refugees in Greece

It should be noted that in the first half of the year, Germany expelled, with 388, more refugees than in the past in Greece. This is evident from the federal government’s response to a relative parliamentary question of the party, the Left, which is available to the German Evangelical News Agency (EPD). An indication that throughout 2024 there were 220 deportations from Germany to Greece.
