A group of countries providing financial assistance to the Palestinian Authority has agreed to an extraordinary package by increasing financial support, the Norway’s Foreign Ministry said today.

Saudi Arabia, Spain, Britain, Japan and France are among those countries that support the initiative, called an urgent coalition for the economic viability of the Palestinian Authority.

It is not yet clear the amount of the amount that this coalition will raise.

The Norwegian government has announced it will contribute 3.4m euros.

“This coalition was set up in response to the urgent and unprecedented financial crisis facing the Palestinian Authority,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

As added to the announcement, the immediate goal is to stabilize the finances of the Palestinian Authority and to maintain its ability to rule, provide the necessary services and maintain security.

The countries involved in the initiative have also called on Israel to release resources that, they argue, belong to the Palestinian Authority.

For decades, Norway has been chairing the international group of donors to the Palestinians, known as a Special Planning Committee (AHLC).
