Ten people were killed and at least 46 were injured in bombings in Mykolaiv, southern Ukraine, Mayor Oleksandr Senkevich said on Monday.

The first strike by the Russian army at 7 a.m. left “one dead and five wounded, two seriously,” followed by another in which “nine people were killed and 41 wounded,” he said in a video message. the death toll may be higher.

“A total of 10 people were killed and 46 were injured in the bombings,” he said, adding that the Russian military had used cluster munitions.

On Sunday, eight people were killed and 34 others wounded in Russian military strikes in Mykolayev and Otsakhev, a smaller town 60 kilometers southwest, according to the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office.

Nikolaev, which had a population of about 475,000 before the war, is one of the cities hard-pressed by Russian troops as they try to occupy Odessa, Ukraine’s largest port. The Russian blockade has seemed to loosen in recent days.

Otsakhev, a city of 15,000 on the Black Sea coast, was one of the first targets of the Russian invasion that began on February 24.
