Mariupol: Russia again calls on Ukrainian forces to capitulate

by

Russia has once again called on Ukrainian forces to lay down their arms in the strategically important port of Mariupol.

Ukrainian forces and foreign mercenaries will be able to leave the city safely and enter areas controlled by Kyiv via an escape route on Tuesday morning, Russian Lt. Gen. Mikhail Mizinchev said. “Everyone who lays down their arms is guaranteed their lives,” the senior Russian official said.

He announced that a new effort would be made to remove civilians and foreign nationals from the city today. In recent days, said Lieutenant General Mizinchev, the Ukrainian side has repeatedly blocked the evacuation of civilians from Mariupol.

This information is impossible to verify independently.

In its afternoon report, the Russian Defense Ministry also announced that its forces had destroyed two ammunition depots, a fuel storage area and two command and control positions in new raids.

He also said that pro-Russian separatists advanced two kilometers in the Luhansk region. According to Moscow, 90% of this region is no longer under the control of Ukrainian forces.
