Mercedes-Benz will put around 5,000 workers at its plant in São Bernardo do Campo (SP) on vacation and will apply the same measure to another 600 in Juiz de Fora (MG) because of the shortage of components for the assembly of trucks and bus, said the automaker this Monday (4).
The vacation period will be 15 days, taking place between April 18 and May 3.
“Due to the global semiconductor supply crisis, Mercedes-Benz is adjusting its production of trucks, bus chassis and aggregates (gearboxes, engines and axles) at the São Bernardo do Campo plant and truck cabins in Juiz de Fora. “, said the automaker in a press release.
Mercedes-Benz had already put about 1,200 workers on collective vacation in March due to problems in the parts supply chain, according to the ABC Metalworkers Union, which initially released the measure on Monday.
The company has about 9,000 workers in São Bernardo do Campo, 6,000 of them in production, the union says.
Mercedes-Benz said it has adopted several alternatives with the Brazilian supply chain and the Daimler Truck group worldwide to face “the daily challenges of supplying parts”, which has impacted the industry for months.
