OR Palestinian Water authority (PWA) announced that the test was restored water supply through Israel in the central Gauze stripafter a break that lasted more than nine months.

The pipeline, owned by Israeli public company Mekorotfeeds many cities in the center of the Palestinian enclave. In these areas they reside tens of thousands of displaced due to conflict between Israel and Hamasaccording to Pwa.

The French agency was unable to confirm independently the restoration of water supply due to restrictions on access to the Gaza Strip.

The interruption of water supply began at the beginning of the war, after Hamas’ attack on Israeli territory on October 7, 2023. Israeli authorities had later stated that reconnected part of the network in the northern part of GazaHowever, residents reported that the benefit was irregular.

The water crisis, which existed before the collision, has deteriorated significantly lately, according to humanitarian sources and local officials. Over 80% of infrastructure has been damaged due to the war, resulting in residents based mainly on aquifers or taps that placed NGOs in displaced camps.

PWA thanked bodies such as UNICEF for their subscription and clarified that it co -ordinated its actions with Israeli authorities to access the central lane of Gaza and repair parts of the pipelines. He stressed that the area remains dangerous because of the intense military presence.

Cogat, which belongs to the Israeli Defense Ministry and is responsible for political affairs in the Palestinian territories, did not answer a question from the French Agency on the matter. Last September he had announced that work was underway to repair the water pipelines.

As commented on a UN source dealing with the issue, “The repair of the pipeline network, which has suffered enormous damage, is a crazy task because it is repaired but we do not know when it will be destroyed again.”.

The Palestinian Water Authority, which belongs to the Palestinian Authority, continues to operate in the Gaza Strip, where Hamas assumed power in 2007. For a year, it has been making efforts to reinstate the water supply to the area.
