The Minister of Environment and Energy of EquatorialManthano fibers, submitted formal reporting for attempted murder against the president Daniel Nomboa. Noboa’s office said that all five detainees would be prosecuted on charges of terrorism and attempted murder. Reuters noted that it was unable to verify independently whether shootings were actually found.
Video from the interior car published by the Presidency shows people flying stones on the roadside and cracks in the windows of the vehicle. A separate photo also released shows a vehicle with broken windows, while another image depicts the 37 -year -old Noboa standing out of the damaged car, wearing sunglasses.
The National Federation of indigenous Conaie said organized violence broke out against the people who had gathered for the arrival of Noboa, noting that older women were among those who were attacked by a “violent police and military operation”.
Conaie has begun strikes for 16 days, organizing roads and road exclusions, in protest of abolishing subsidies in diesel oil. Critics argue that further dialogue is needed and that the measure will increase the cost of living, especially for small farmers and indigenous communities.
Noboa signed the executive decree to abolish subsidies in mid -September, while its government declared emergency in several provinces to maintain order.
The government has defended the decision, stating that the abolition of subsidies will release about $ 1.1 billion a year, which have already begun to be redistributed as compensatory payments to small farmers and transport workers.
Noboa, re -elected in April, has repeatedly granted extraordinary powers to the Armed Forces and the Police, in the context of his strict security and crime policy policy.
