The United States has been assisted by Ukraine for months on long -range attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, as part of a joint effort to weaken the Russian economy and forced Vladimir Putin to sit at the negotiating table, according to a Financial Times.
The US Intelligence Service is alleged to have provided critical data in Kiev for blows in basic Russian energy facilities – including refineries – in areas far from the front line, sources cited by the newspaper.
The White House, Volodimir Zelenski’s office and the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry have responded immediately to Reuters’ requests to comment on the report, and there was no reaction from the Russian Foreign Ministry either.
Moscow has already accused Washington and NATO of providing systematic information to Ukraine. “The use of the entire US and NATO infrastructure to collect and transfer information to the Ukrainians is obvious,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov had recently said.
According to the FT, US subscription is not only limited to target information, but also extends to critical design parameters – such as the course, flight height, time and tactics – allowing Ukrainian unmanned aircraft to avoid Russian aircraft systems.
Three sources with the knowledge of the business said the US is involved in all stages of planning. Ukrainian officials choose the goals, while Washington provides information on the “weak points” of the facilities.
Earlier in the month, two US officials had told Reuters that the US was planning to provide Kiev information on critical energy infrastructure in Russian inland – while also considering mission of missiles that could be used in such attacks. At the same time, Washington has asked its allies to NATO to contribute with corresponding support.
Zelenski, for his part, said on Saturday that he had a “positive and productive” telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump on Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy system.
“We discussed ways to strengthen our airline, as well as specific agreements that are ongoing in this direction. There are good choices and stable ideas on how we can be essentially strengthened, “he said in a post on the X platform.
